The Story That Started It All
our founder
Dampy Brar is a trailblazer, mentor, and proud father whose passion for hockey has become a lifelong mission to uplift and empower others. A former professional ice hockey player with a seven-year career across the ECHL, CHL, WCHL, and IHL, Dampy earned numerous accolades, including five “Most Popular Player” awards with the Tacoma Sabercats.
After retiring from pro hockey, he continued his leadership on the international stage by captaining and organizing Team India in global ball hockey tournaments. Driven by a deep commitment to inclusion and representation, Dampy co-founded the South Asian Canada Cup (formerly Indo-Cup) in 2008 and later founded the South Asian Hockey Association to break down barriers for South Asian players and families. Through mentorship, advocacy, and community-building, he has supported countless athletes and parents while working with the broader hockey world to create meaningful change.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions, Dampy received the NHL’s Willie O’Ree Community Hero Award and was named one of Calgary’s Top 20 Compelling Calgarians in 2020. He continues to advance the game globally through his roles with the Pama Golden Knights Hockey Academy, as Vice President of Inline Ball Hockey in India, and as a coach with the Okanagan Hockey Academy and U15 Girls South Okanagan Zone Team.
And while Dampy leads with heart and vision, he’s the first to acknowledge that none of this happens alone—he’s supported by a strong circle of family, friends, community members, and partners who continue to help bring the mission to life.
